Equality and diversity

We are committed to promoting equality and diversity in all of our practices and activities.

We aim to establish an inclusive and welcoming culture which ensures equal opportunities for staff and students of all ages, ethnicities, disabilities, family structures, genders, nationalities, sexual orientations, races, religious or other beliefs, and socio-economic backgrounds.

Athena SWAN

Athena SWAN is a program aimed at promoting gender equality in higher education and research, particularly in STEM fields.

Administered by Advance HE, the program operates through a charter that institutions commit to, involving self-assessment, goal setting, and striving for bronze, silver, or gold awards based on their progress. The initiative focuses on creating inclusive environments, breaking down barriers to career and fostering diversity in academia.

We were awarded an Athena SWAN Bronze Award in October 2018 and are striving towards a Silver Award. We have committed to a range of actions to promote gender equality within our School.

Our Equality, Diversity, and Inclusion (EDI) committee’s primary purpose is to promote a more inclusive and equitable workplace by addressing issues related to discrimination, bias, and underrepresentation.

We develop strategies, policies, and initiatives to create a workplace that values and supports diversity, ensuring that individuals have equal opportunities for success and advancement.
