Next-generation tools
Advancing tools, models and diagnostics to monitor freshwater ecosystems and optimise catchment management.
On the river Wye Cardiff University researchers have partnered with citizen scientists to monitor water quality of the whole catchment.
Watch our video about working with citizen scientists.
In the Usk catchment researchers have created a real-time model to optimise catchment flow. Using samples collected in the Wye, our molecular ecologists have developed genetic tools to aid freshwater monitoring and conservation, and in the Usk catchment metagenomic sequencing is being used to investigate anti-microbial resistance .
Across the Wye and Usk catchments we are using computer vision techniques to monitor fish health from photos collected by anglers.
