AquaWales
Minimising the impacts of intensive aquaculture in the face of climate change.
The AquaWales project aims to address three main challenges for sustainable aquaculture:
- reducing its ecological footprint
- reducing the risk of disease transmission
- controlling the inadvertent introduction of invasive species.
The project takes a novel approach, considering both the roles of genetic and non-genetic effects on fish domestication and responses to crowding. The project combines new molecular techniques with the power of citizen science to develop innovative methods of early detection and management of invasive species in relation to aquaculture and fisheries.
