Teaching
Our teaching is designed to blend the traditional and modern approaches of learning anatomy underpinned by evidence-based educational principles.

Anatomy forms the foundation of medical, dental, and bioscience courses.
We focus on supporting students throughout their studies. From understanding core anatomical concepts to building a detailed appreciation of the body and its clinical application to a critical appreciation of anatomical research.
“I loved studying anatomy at Cardiff. The tutorials before each practical session were highly regarded. Not only did they prepare us for the practical session, they allowed us to consolidate our self-directed learning and apply it to clinical scenarios.”
Anatomy teaching and learning are achieved through active participation and collaborative approaches, helping students to engage deeply in the subject.
However, we also encourage learning outside of formal teaching sessions and offer online and technology-enhanced learning opportunities, including access to 3D scans, bespoke interactive learning resources and activities, and access to commercial software.
While learning anatomy, students also develop essential skills such as professionalism, teamwork, appreciation of anatomical variations, ethics and mortality.
To enhance and capture this, each year, our students are encouraged to reflect on the rich learning experiences afforded by their donors and express their gratitude through a creative medium such as artwork or poetry.
These are displayed or read during the annual memorial and thanksgiving event helping to demonstrate thanks to their silent teachers.
This puts the donor at the centre of the students’ learning and ensures patient-oriented work.
