Violence Research: All-Wales Licensed Premises Intervention to Reduce Alcohol-Related Violence
This project implements trial intervention on premises licensed for on-site alcohol consumption in Wales.
The intervention consists of a face-to-face interview with premises managers regarding risk factors for intoxication and disorder. This information informs the drawing up of an action plan. Police recorded data on violent incidents will be collated specific to individual licensed premises for twelve months before and twelve months after the intervention. Comparison will be made between the group with intervention and the control group which does not receive intervention.
Project aims
The aims of this project are to:
- finalise the design and implementation of a licensed premises intervention to maximise its acceptability and sustainability
- estimate the effectiveness of the intervention, which is designed to reduce assault-related injury.
Funding
The project is funded by the National Institute for Health Research Public Health Research and is in collaboration with the Chartered Institute of Environmental Health (CIEH) and Welsh Local Government Association (WLGA).
The project started in July 2012 and will run till February 2016 with £1M funding.
