Entry requirements for Scotland
Our entry requirements will vary depending on your level of study and the course you are interested in.
Undergraduate courses
Scottish Highers and Advanced Highers will be considered for entry into year 1 of our undergraduate programmes. To give you an idea of the grades you will require, we have provided the following equivalency table which can be compared against the typical A-level entry requirements listed on our undergraduate course pages.
National 5s
We will accept National 5s in lieu of GCSE, where there are level 2 requirements in our selection processes.
GCSEs | National 5 |
A* | A |
A | B |
B | C |
C | D |
Highers
We will accept 5 Highers, grades A-C, where there are no level 3 subject requirements in the typical offer.
Typical A level offer | Equivalent Higher offer |
AAA | AABBB |
AAB | ABBBB |
ABB | BBBBC |
BBB | BBBCC |
BBC | BBCCC |
BCC | CCCCC |
CCC | CCCCD |
Advanced Highers
Where the typical A level offer includes a subject requirement, Advanced Highers are required to meet that subject requirement.
A level | Advanced Higher |
A* | A |
A | B |
B | C |
C | D |
When making an offer with a subject requirement, in most cases we can accept a combination of Highers and Advanced Highers, but we will never count the same subjects twice.
The exception to this is Medicine and Dentistry, which will require three Advanced Higher level qualifications.
