Welsh Language Skills Certificate
Demonstrate your Welsh language proficiency to employers with the Coleg Cymraeg Cenedlaethol Welsh Language Skills Certificate.
Having bilingual skills can greatly enhance your job prospects and open up many opportunities in various industries, both in the public and private sectors. Many employers highly value the Tystysgrif Sgiliau Iaith certificate as it signifies the importance of language proficiency.
The certificate is free of charge to all students and staff at the university, and a Language Skills Tutor will offer support, focusing on the requirements of the oral and written tasks.
Since its introduction in 2013, the Certificate has gained widespread recognition. Every year, hundreds of students across Wales study for this qualification. We want to ensure you can study for the Certificate to compete with your peers and increase your chances of getting a job.
Aim of the Certificate
The Certificate aims to establish a recognised method of showcasing students' linguistic abilities, enabling them to prove to employers their ability to confidently and professionally communicate in Welsh, both orally and in writing.
Successful candidates will have proof of the following:
- Welsh language skills
- the ability to work confidently and professionally through the medium of Welsh in a variety of environments and contexts
Next steps and support
To obtain the Certificate, students must complete:
- an oral presentation task
- a written test consisting of three tasks
The Certificate tutor is available for one-to-one support, and informal preparatory sessions are held throughout the academic year.
Attending the sessions is a fantastic opportunity to ensure you prepare thoroughly for your assessments and do your best. In addition, the sessions can also help support other studies through the Welsh medium. The provision aims to be flexible so you can attend the classes alongside your degree studies or job.
