About the Coleg Cymraeg Cenedlaethol
The Coleg plays an important role by establishing a bilingual learning environment and supporting the long-term sustainability and growth of the Welsh language.
Established in 2011, the Coleg provides a structured approach to Welsh-medium higher education as part of the Welsh Government's strategy to enhance and support the use of Welsh in all areas of life, including education.
Its efforts ensure that the language thrives in academic, professional, and everyday settings across Wales.
Why study in Welsh?
There are many advantages to choosing to study a university course through the medium of Welsh:
- Advantages in the job market: Having Welsh language skills provides a significant advantage. Many employers in Wales seek university graduates who can work in both Welsh and English.
- Beyond learning: Remember that university is more than just academics. Cardiff University has a vibrant Welsh language community that offers social events, gigs, societies, choirs, and more.
- Brain development and creativity: Speaking, reading, and writing in more than one language is excellent for brain development. It can also improve your creativity and even your mathematical skills.
