Support for lesbian, gay, bisexual, trans(gender)+ students
We want to ensure that we provide the best support for all our students. LGBT+ students may face different challenges at university and we have services to support you.
We strive to continue to improve the experience of our LGBT+ students, and have been continually recognised for our efforts by Europe's largest LGBT equality organisation:
- We are a Stonewall Diversity Champion.
- We are proud to be ranked 7th out of 100 employers in the Stonewall Workplace Equality Index 2022; we have also been recognised by Stonewall as a Top Trans Employer.
- We are the highest ranked University in the Top 100.
Supporting you
CU Pride (LGBT+ Society)
CU Pride (LGBT+ Society) hosts several socials a week and organises events throughout the year. To ensure that everyone has the opportunity to join in, our events take place on and off the gay scene, at different times and on different days throughout the week, and include non-alcoholic events.
LGBT+ Association
The LGBT+ Association represents our students that identify as lesbian, gay, bi*, trans* and as other minority sexual, romantic and gender identities. The association works with the Students’ Union to improve the university experience of LGBT+ students through welfare and awareness campaigns on campus, and by lobbying for policy change.
Enfys
Our LGBT+ network for staff and postgraduate students, Enfys, organises and takes part in events for LGBT History Month, IDAHO (International Day Against Homophobia and Transphobia) and Cardiff Pride. In recognition of the work it does, it has been awarded a Star Performer Network Group award by Stonewall.
Student support
Our Student Support Centre has a range of services dedicated to helping you to make the most of student life. The staff at the centres are able to offer confidential advice and support when you need it.
