Postgraduate research fee waiver for EU students

The fee waiver scheme is for EU postgraduate research students studying as new students in the academic year 2025/26 who are classified as ‘EU’ students for fee purposes.

The waiver will fund the difference between the advertised Home fee and EU/International fee rates for the duration of the studentship and will be applied automatically if you meet the conditions of the award.

To be eligible, you must:

  • have an offer to study on a full-time Postgraduate Research programme
  • be classified as ‘EU’ for tuition fee purposes

To be classified as ‘EU’ for tuition fee purposes, you must:

  • be ordinarily resident* in the EU/EEA/UK/Switzerland for the full three-year period before commencing your studies
  • have no immigration restriction on the length of your stay in the EU/EEA/UK/Switzerland
  • not be eligible for ‘Home’ fee status under Welsh Government regulations

* ‘Ordinarily resident’ means that you must have been habitually, normally and lawfully residing in the specified residence area from choice. Temporary absences from the residence area may be ignored and would therefore not stop you from being ordinarily resident. No legislation defines a ‘temporary’ absence and so these will be assessed on an individual basis against relevant case law.
