Doctoral Training Initiatives
Our research-intensive profile and reputation enables us to secure funding for doctoral study from a wide range of sources, including UK Research Councils, charities and trusts, governmental bodies and industry.
In particular, we are currently leading or participating in a range of specific doctoral training initiatives, such as UK Research Council sponsored Doctoral Training Partnerships (DTPs) or Centres for Doctoral Training (CDTs). These span many of our areas of academic and research strengths.
DTPs and CDTs bring together diverse areas of expertise which aim to train postgraduate research students with the skills, knowledge and confidence to become successful researchers and who are able to tackle today's big questions and future challenges.
They also aim to provide a supportive and exciting environment for students, often with the opportunity to take advantage of broader training or development opportunities, such as language learning, overseas research visits, or placements with non-academic partners. In addition, as a postgraduate research student at Cardiff University our aim is for you to access the training provided through the Doctoral Academy.
You can search our studentships or find out more about funding.
