NHS funding for pre-registration Occupational Therapy and pre-registration Physiotherapy

The information on this page relates to the funding available in the 2022-23 academic year. We will update this page in due course once we have confirmation of the funding for 2023-24.

Eligibility for NHS funding is subject to new students committing in advance to work in Wales for 18 months post-qualification.

If you commit in advance to work in Wales post-qualification, your tuition fees will be paid for by the NHS and is not income assessed.

Funding for your living costs if living in your own home with consist of a £1,000 NHS grant which is not income assessed, and an NHS bursary which is income assessed.

It demonstrates the maximum NHS funding available per academic year. The bursary is reduced if you live in your parental home.  Extra weeks have been included to the basic bursary.

Students from Wales are not eligible for the reduced maintenance loan from Student Finance Wales. Students from England can apply for the reduced maintenance loan of £2,534 from Student Finance England (living away from parental home).

Opting out of the NHS Advanced Work Commitment

If you opt out of the Advanced Work Commitment and you are living in Wales before starting your course, you are eligible to apply for Master’s finance from Student Finance Wales unless you already hold a Master’s or higher qualification. Further information is available on the Student Finance Wales website.

If you opt out and you are living in England before starting your course, you are eligible for student finance funding which will consist of a tuition fee loan (not income assessed) and a maintenance loan (income assessed).
