The Stationers’ Foundation bursaries

The School of Journalism, Media and Culture has partnered with The Stationers’ Foundation to offer two generous bursaries to UK students studying either News Journalism or Data Journalism.

The Stationers’ Foundation (TSF) is a branch of The Stationers’ Company, a livery company in the City of London for communications-related industries.

In addition to a generous financial bursary of £9000, administered as a fee discount, the Foundation offers mentoring support for the duration of your studies from an appropriate Foundation member. These mentors could support students to make industry connections and explore opportunities for work experience. Successful students will also have membership of the TSF for three years.

One bursary is available in each academic year for the following programmes:

Eligibility

To be eligible for this bursary applicants must be:

under 30 in the September the programme begins
resident in the UK
classified as paying UK tuition fees
holding a conditional or unconditional offer for a relevant programme
able to attend an awards ceremony in the November after the programme begins, at Stationers’ Hall, London. (No expenses are available for this event).
willing to submit compulsory termly reports to your assigned mentor

There will be one bursary available for each programme, each year. Bursaries will be awarded based on academic merit, financial need and the quality of the application.

If you are awarded a Stationers’ Foundation Bursary then you will not be eligible to receive any additional funding from Cardiff University, including a Master’s Excellence Scholarship or Alumni Discount.

How to apply

Offer-holders to the relevant programmes who are interested and eligible for the bursary will need to submit an application form to the course director in Cardiff University (listed below) by the following dates in order to be screened and shortlisted:

News Journalism (MA) - Friday 24th May
Computational and Data Journalism (MSc) - Monday 17th June.

Selection process

Shortlisted candidates will be invited to interview in-person in the summer before the programme is due to begin. This interview will provide candidates with the opportunity to give a short presentation in support of their application and show examples of their work.

The interview panel will be made up of at least two Foundation Trustees and the relevant Course Director(s) from Cardiff University.
