Accommodation options to suit everyone

We have a range of student halls and houses to suit individual preferences and budgets.

This includes accommodation for:

Quiet living

University halls and houses provide a lively and busy environment, especially where large numbers of students are living together. However, we do offer accommodation options for those undergraduates who'd prefer to live in a quieter setting.

When you apply, you can request a room in a shared flat/house with other students who have also expressed an interest in a quiet living environment.

If you're allocated a room in quiet living accommodation, we just ask that you keep the volume of televisions and audio equipment low and be especially considerate late at night and during exam periods. Unfortunately, we can't regulate the level of external or environmental noises.

LGBT+

We are a Stonewall Diversity Champion and awarded a Silver level in the Stonewall Workplace Equality Index 2024.

We hope students find all of our accommodations welcoming and offer support to help them settle into life away from home. Our Residence Life team are dedicated to creating an inclusive community and bringing students together through a range of activities. You can also access a selection of student support and wellbeing services and find societies and groups that are specifically aimed at supporting LGBT+ students.

LGBT+ options

We aim to continually improve our services and have been working with LGBT+ students on ideas to enhance their university experience.

Following student feedback, some flats at Talybont North and Talybont South have been reserved for LGBT+ students. This accommodation is offered as an option for students who would prefer to live with, or feel most supported living with, other LGBT+ students and/or allies.

If you identify as LGBT+ and would like to apply for this accommodation, please select this option on your online application.

Welsh speakers and learners

As the only bilingual Russell Group university, Cardiff University is committed to supporting its vibrant community of Welsh speakers. To foster this commitment, some flats at Senghennydd Court and Talybont North are specifically reserved for undergraduate students who are either fluent in Welsh or are learning the language and wish to live together.

Some flats at Senghennydd Court and Talybont North are reserved for undergraduate students who are Welsh speakers or learners.

If you would like to apply for this accommodation, select this option on your online application.

Couples and families

We offer accommodation options for couples and families. Couples have the option to stay in a studio or one-bedroom flat, while students with a family can select one, two or three-bedroom flats or houses as appropriate for the number, age and gender of their children.

There is a limited amount and as a result, we are unfortunately unable to guarantee this type of accommodation and priority is given to students coming from overseas for their first year of study.

All students living in accommodation for couples or families will need to find alternative accommodation after the first year.

We also provide WiFi for partners, spouses and family members. However, only registered students can use the network connection point.
