Prepare the next generation for the real world
Sagnik believes that what makes Cardiff special is that it attracts students from all over the world and gives them the tools to make their mark.
“I moved to America with $300 in my pocket, and I had to figure my life out from scratch for the second time in my life. One of the big reasons I was able to do that was because I knew that I had the knowledge and the technical background, which Cardiff gave me."
After finishing his master’s in 2018, Sagnik moved to the US to pursue a career in media. With only $300 in his pocket and no contacts, he embarked on his new life – and he credits Cardiff University with giving him the confidence and the knowledge to be able to do that.
He joined the Daily Caller in Washington DC as a Senior Producer, where he won awards for his work documenting illegal marijuana operations by cartels. His interview with Florida Governor Ron DeSantis was featured in Daily Mail, the most-read English-language newspaper in the world.
“What makes Cardiff University special is the fact that it’s a hub of diverse people doing a bunch of things, which, at the end of the day, makes the university better every single day.”
“It sounds really cliche, but I had a thirst for knowledge and wanted to learn from truly talented people. These for me, are the Cardiff professors, and the School of Journalism, Media and Culture staff in general, and the fact that this school was such a research heavy school, which would arm me with all the knowledge that I needed before I stepped into the real world.”
In 2022 he became Head of Social and Senior Editor at FOX Media where he develops news shows and podcasts covering sport, pop culture, and politics.
Sagnik believes that what makes Cardiff special is that it attracts students from all over the world and gives them the tools to make their mark. He thinks there’s nothing more powerful than getting a bunch of people who don’t look like each other, who don’t speak the same language and who don’t have the same experiences around a table, making that table bigger and better.
We're honoured to be a part of this journey and there’s always a space for Sagnik at our table.
