Creating a more connected world
Isabella hopes to utilise her linguistic skills to bridge gaps, create understanding and play her part in creating a more connected and empathic world.
Isabella was always inspired by people who can talk to anyone and credits language as a big part of that.
A love for languages and an interest in history compelled Isabella to study German and Spanish with us at Cardiff University, and she’s about to embark upon a travel experience to immerse herself within the cultures she’s been studying after graduating.
It’s the people she met along the way that made her Cardiff University experience so special – the community she’s made here has made it unforgettable. In the spirit of community, Isabella believes that we can turn language into connection and build bigger communities.

Together, we can create a more connected world
What inspired you to study German and Spanish?
My way into studying German and Spanish was somewhat unexpected — it was during the Covid pandemic, and I found myself choosing this path almost by chance. But it turned out to be the best decision I’ve ever made. I’ve always had a love for languages, but I had never studied German before, and was really interested in German history. This gave me the chance to dive deeper into something I’m passionate about. I’m really inspired by people who can talk to anyone, and I think language is a big part of that. Learning languages has not only broadened my horizons but also connected me to amazing people and cultures
Tell us about a special moment?
One of the most memorable projects I worked on was in my Business Spanish module, where we had to create and pitch a business idea entirely in Spanish. Working in small classes meant that working together was key — we all supported each other, especially during exam season. I remember everyone coming together to share ideas and push each other, which really helped us all to succeed.
What are your plans after completing your degree?
My next step is to travel and immerse myself in the cultures I’ve been studying. I want to see the world through the lens of these languages and continue learning — French is next on my list! After that, I’m not sure where the world will take me, but I know I want to keep connecting with people and cultures, wherever I go.
What are your hopes for the future?
I believe together we can turn language into connection and build bigger communities. Languages have the power to bring people closer, to bridge gaps, and to create understanding. By learning and sharing languages, we can create a more connected and empathetic world.
