Changing the world through physics
Kavetha believes that physics is all about uncovering the hidden details that explain the world around us, and is passionate about using science to make a difference.
Originally planning to study Mechanical Engineering, it was this curiosity for understanding how things work which instead led Kavetha to join us at Cardiff University to study Physics.
She believes that physics is all about uncovering the hidden details that explain the world around us, and is passionate about making a difference and changing the world through science – understanding that it’s this discipline which can help us improve healthcare, or understand the universe for example.
Kavetha is looking to make her mark in the field of physics and will be starting a graduate scientist programme at the National Physical Laboratory. The skills she learned at Cardiff, like collaborative problem-solving and resilience under pressure will come in handy as she continues to explore the mysteries of the universe.
She wants to be part of the advancements in technology and science that will shape our future – and thanks to her foundation of education, personal growth and development from Cardiff University, we have no doubt that she will succeed.
Together, we can change the world through physics
What inspired you to study physics?
I originally intended to study Mechanical Engineering, but wanted to dive deeper into understanding how things really work on a fundamental level. Physics is all about uncovering the hidden details that explain the world around us. Every time I discover something new, it’s like a spark that further fuels my curiosity.
Tell us about a memorable experience
One of the most intense but rewarding experiences was during my fourth year when I collaborated with master’s students from Cardiff, Aberystwyth, and Swansea Universities. We were put into random groups and had just five days to come up with a unique research proposal, something we’d never done before. The pressure was high, but it taught me so much about teamwork, communication and how to handle challenging situations. It was an eye-opening experience that’s definitely helped me in interviews and will continue to benefit me in future roles.
What are your plans after completing your degree?
I’m excited to be starting a graduate scientist programme at the National Physical Laboratory. My goal is to make my mark in the field, and I’m hoping to pursue a PhD and go from there. The experiences and skills I’ve gained at Cardiff—like collaborative problem-solving and resilience under pressure—will be crucial as I continue to explore the mysteries of the universe. I’m driven by the desire to contribute to our understanding of how everything works, and I want to be part of the advancements in technology and science that will shape our future.
What are your hopes for the future?
I believe together we can make a difference and change the world through physics. Physics has the power to change the world, from understanding the universe to improving healthcare. By working together, we can push the boundaries of what’s possible and create a better future. My experiences at Cardiff have shown me that collaboration and shared knowledge are the keys to making a meaningful impact, and I’m eager to carry that spirit into my career.
