Breaking down barriers to education
Lindi believes that together we can create a better education system for young people, making a real difference in their lives, breaking down the barriers to education and making subjects like mathematics accessible to all.
Lindi is a recent Mathematics graduate who’s planning to save money and travel the world before settling into a career path.
Crediting Cardiff University with transforming the way she thinks about collaboration, understanding that it’s more than just teamwork – but an attitude too, Lindi is grateful for the connections she’s made and the community that she built while living and studying in Wales’ capital city.

Together, we can break down barriers to education
What inspired you to study Mathematics?
I wasn’t always good at maths. I actually couldn’t do GCSE maths to save my life – I was always having to stay behind after school. But my high school maths teacher was an amazing woman and really paved my way. Her passion and how she made maths relatable completely changed my perspective. I realised how powerful maths is, not just as a subject, but as a tool to solve real-world problems. That’s when I knew I wanted to pursue it further.
Can you tell us about a memorable project you worked on?
One of the most interesting projects I worked on was a game theory module where my team and I explored the dynamics of marriage and divorce using math. It was fascinating to see how math could be applied to such personal decisions, and it was a highly collaborative project. Even though we were in different teams, we supported each other, which made the experience even more rewarding.
What are your plans after completing your degree?
I’m financially independent — working and paying my own rent and bills, which is something I’m really proud of. I’m planning to save some money over the next three years, and then take some time to travel, explore the world and gain new perspectives, before really settling into a career.
What are your hopes for the future?
I’ve learnt through personal experience the impact that a single teacher can have on a person’s life, and how sharing knowledge and having support and collaboration can not only shift a person’s perspective but have a real effect on their results. I believe that together we can create a better education system for young people, and make a real difference in their lives.
