Stem Cell and Flow Cytometry Unit

The Cardiff Institute of Tissue Engineering and Repair (CITER) funded stem cell suite is located within the School of Biosciences.
The facility is primarily set up as a stem cell suite and comprises a BD FACS Canto analyser and FACS Aria cell sorter. The facility also has tissue culture facilities for both primary culture and established cell lines, the latter being a mycoplasma free environment. The suite also houses a time-lapse fluorescent microscope and ultra low temperature tissue/cell storage facility.
Equipment
Name | Make/Model | Details |
---|---|---|
Flow cytometer – cell analyser | BD FACS Canto | The flow cytometer has two lasers (488nm and 633nm) and can be used for cell analysis only. |
Flow cytometer – cell sorter BD FACS Aria | BD FACS Aria | The flow cytometer has three lasers (405nm, 488nm and 633nm) and can be used for cell analysis or cell sorting into tubes, tissue culture plates or slides. |
Time-lapse fluorescent microscope | Olympus time lapse microscope | Bright field and fluorescent microscope including DAPI, FITC and PI channels with time lapse facility. |
Tissue culture facilities | Mycoplasma-free cell culture | Our tissue culture facilities for established cell lines can detect mycoplasma infection and contamination. |
