We are located in the heart of Cardiff, which is a vibrant, growing capital city surrounded by outstanding natural beauty. Our School is one of the largest in the UK and is ranked 9th for Psychology in the Complete University Guide 2024.
We are long established, well resourced, with a highly regarded international reputation. Our size and scale mean that our teaching and research covers the full breadth of psychology and we provide a range of undergraduate, postgraduate and training opportunities.
Our research
Our internationally leading research delivers advances in knowledge and improvements in quality of life through shaping public policy and improving health outcomes.
From award-winning firefighter decision-making research that led to a nationwide policy change, world-leading research informing environmental and climate policy, to producing the most detailed images of the brain, our broad research is supported through research centres, multi-disciplinary partnerships, and strong collaboration with users, industry, the NHS, charities and the public.
Our teaching
We teach British Psychological Society (BPS) accredited undergraduate, MSc and professional doctorate psychology courses, as well as training a strong community of PhD students. At all levels, students can undertake professional placements with a wide range of partners.
Teaching at Cardiff University was awarded a silver classification in the latest Teaching Excellence Framework (TEF), meaning that we deliver high quality teaching, learning and outcomes for our students.

Our locations
We have four locations offering unparalleled opportunities for studying, teaching and research. Each of our buildings is equipped with outstanding facilities dedicated to specific areas of psychology and they are all within a short walk of each other.
Tower Building
Our main psychology hub located in the centre of the Cathays Park campus features various teaching, research, and laboratory spaces. This is where most of our undergraduate and postgraduate teaching and research takes place. It is also home to our innovative artificial intelligence and robotics research centre, IROHMS, and professional psychology degree teams (Clinical Psychology and Cognitive Behavioural Therapies)
Cardiff University Centre for Human Development Sciences (CUCHDS)
CUCHDS is our dedicated developmental facility and is located next door to Tower Building, this dedicated developmental facility contains specially designed laboratory space for those students on our MSc in Children's Psychological Disorders course, Educational Psychology Doctorate course and our developmental research students.
