The Simons Observatory
The Simons Observatory is the next ground-based experiment designed to measure polarisation anisotropies in the Cosmic Microwave Background (CMB) radiation.
It aims to probe both the development of the early Universe and the physics that drove it. It will have a number of telescopes operating in the high-altitude Atacama Desert in Chile.
The Astronomy Instrumentation Group is participating by providing the large filters needed for the instruments, by providing one of the complete telescope and instrument units in collaboration with other UK universities, and through data analysis and scientific expertise.
