Amie Roberts
I love my varied role in the hospital knowing that the work I do is directly benefiting patients.
Medical Physicist
I obtained my undergraduate degree (BSc Physics with Medical Physics) from Cardiff University in 2015.
After this, I started working at a hospital in Singleton Hospital in Swansea.
There I worked in the Nuclear Medicine Department as a Trainee Clinical Scientist, and undertook a structured training programme to become a state-registered Clinical Scientist. It's such an interesting field of science, that is constantly developing which is both exciting and honour to be part of!
During my time at Singleton Hospital, I also completed an MSc in Medical Radiation Physics at Swansea University.
A varied and exciting job
I’m now working for Cardiff and Vale Health Board in Nuclear Medicine and Doppler Ultrasound as a Clinical Scientist.
Alongside this I’ve also joined Cardiff University with support from The Wales Research and Diagnostic Positron Emission Tomography Imaging Centre (PETIC) to complete a research project in new CZT gamma camera technology (an imaging device in nuclear medicine).
I find that every day is different as Clinical Scientist, as I undertake a variety of roles including patient clinics, research and development, teaching, management, and quality assurance, which all allow me to use my skills as a scientist within the healthcare setting.
