I’ve worked on so many exciting projects such as the NHS' COVID-19 'Nightingale' and 'Track and Trace' projects, which made me feel like my work is making a positive impact on the world.

Using data to make business decisions

I graduated from Cardiff University with a BSc in Physics in 2018.

I now work at the large international company, KPMG, which is multinational professional services network, and one of the ‘Big Four’ accounting organisations.

Here I’m part of the Infrastructure, Government and Healthcare (IGH) sector, and my team supports important clients such as the NHS, the police, the Ministry of Defence, and railway companies.

My role is linked to ‘Data Modelling’, which entails deep insights into data and automation of processes and means that create models which help client to make well-informed financial and business decisions.

On KMPG’s graduate scheme I have built models using a broad range of tools such as Excel, Visual Basic for Applications (VBA), Structured Query Language (SQL), Python, and Power Business Information (BI).

Making a difference

I have also had the opportunity to work in the Financial Services Data Modelling team on a year-long secondment, where I worked on a very rewarding bereavement reconciliation project with a major a UK bank.

This bank had failed to process and pay out money from tens of thousands of deceased customers. This project involved data analysis to identify which customers have been impacted, who the money should go to, and which customers were the most vulnerable and needed our urgent help. We then built a model to calculate how much compensation they deserve and ensured that this was paid to them and all issues were resolved.
