Undergraduate courses
Our degree programmes convey the excitement of physics and astronomy, develop your skills in problem solving and help prepare you for a variety of careers.
We take great pride in the quality of our teaching and the attainments of our students. The university is one of the top places in the UK to study physics and astronomy, from both a teaching and research perspective.
In the 2022 National Student Survey, 100% of our Astronomy and 93% of our Physics graduates were satisfied overall with our degree courses. This independent student survey sees our students consistently expressing high levels of satisfaction.
Flexible study
All of our undergraduate courses have a common first year which allows you to transfer onto a different undergraduate course within the School if you so wish. You can make a decision on the content of your 3rd and 4th year courses at the end of the second year.
This makes for a flexible study programme allowing you to change your mind if you decide that you would rather take one of our other courses once you have started your degree with us.
Placements in industry
We offer a range of degrees with a professional placement, allowing you to spend your third year working at an external company that we are linked with.
This placement is designed to help you further develop your problem-solving skills, your use of initiative, and to gain a professional work methodology by experiencing some degree of professional responsibility.
Our students obtain places in a range of successful companies and organisations such as Rolls Royce, EDF, Rutherford Appleton Laboratory, Merck Healthcare and Applied Seismology Consultants. These cover a range of professional roles, including Communications, Engineering, Technology, Science and Technology, and Aerospace research and development.
