Overview

I work as a clinical GP in Cardiff for half the week and in the Univeristy for the other half. I am passionate about encouraging our students to be the best they can be and for them to choose a career in General Practice. The placements I organise in the 3rd year of the medical course are designed to foster an interest in general practice. I want our students to see the whole person and not just their disease. I am keen that students are aware of the issues surrounding the safe transfer of care between hospitals and the community, to prepare them better for their roles as junior doctors, whichever branch of medicine they end up working in.

Biography

I trained as a doctor in London before moving to Wales with my wife. I have worked as a GP in Cardiff for 30 years. I have been involved in teaching and training for most of that time. I have worked for the University for the past 15 years expanding the role of general practice in the undergraduate curriculum.

Teaching

I teach students about caring in the community. Seeing patients in their homes and in primary care healthcare facilities. Understanding how patients health is impacted by their environment and also how their lives can be affected by illness. I want students to see how good primary care makes a real difference to the health of individuals and populations.
