Pathway to a degree in Music

Pathway to a degree in Music

Studying our Pathway to Music prepares you to make an application to progress on to an undergraduate degree with the University's School of Music.

Modules are taught online in the evenings in the Autumn and Spring terms, and through a combination of three Day Schools and online tutorials in the Summer term.

We welcome applications from students who may have been away from formal education for several years.

How it works

The Pathway is made up of 60 credits. It is intended to provide you with the skills and knowledge you need, and will guarantee you an interview, to study a degree with the School of Music. This Pathway can prepare you to make an application to the following degrees:

  • Music (BMus) W302
  • Music with a year of study abroad (BMus) G85D
  • Music (BA) W300

If you wish to enrol on the Pathway to a degree in Music you must have a working familiarity with music theory grades 1-2. If you wish to focus on solo or ensemble performance in the Creative Musicianship module, then it is strongly recommended that you have achieved Practical Grades 5–6 when applying, or be able to demonstrate an ability to perform music commensurate with this level of difficulty evidenced in the learning outcomes of Grades 5–6 practical music examinations.
