Pathway to a degree in Translation

Students in an IT room wearing headphones

Our pathway to a degree in translation is taught by people who have expert subject knowledge and the ability to support, inspire and share their learning with you.

How it works

The pathway is made up of 60 credits and is equivalent to 50% of the first year of a degree. It is intended to provide you with the linguistic skills and intellectual preparation needed to study for a degree in translation.

You must focus on one language to go on to study a single honour.

Language module options include:

French

German

Italian

Spanish

Determining your level of language competency can be difficult but we have developed a table indicating levels of competency to help.

Students for this module are usually required to start at stage E or above.

If you do not have the required level of competency in German and Italian, you will still be able to enrol on a Pathway to a degree in Translation. For beginners in German and Italian, you will have the same module choices as for our Pathway to Chinese, German, Italian, Portuguese and Japanese.

You can find information about the Pathway to Chinese, German, Italian, Japanese and Portuguese (beginners) modules.

Duration

Under normal circumstances, you can expect to complete the pathway within one year, but you can take longer if needed.

Cost

Information about funding and finance can be found here.
