Cardiff midwifery students on a hike up Pen y Fan
17 August 2015
Midwifery students from the School of Healthcare Sciences and members of Cardiff Midwifery Society organised a sponsored hike up the highest peak, Pen y Fan in the Brecon Beacons in aid of the Midwives@ethiopia charity.
This wasn't just your 'normal' hike the challenge, though unusual was for the students to complete the hike carrying empathy bellies weighing a minimum of 10 kilos up to the heaviest of 12 kilos, representing the weight a mother gains during pregnancy. This event took place on Wednesday 29th July 2015 which was an extremely hot day and this made the hike even more arduous.
The aim was to raise money for Midwives@ethoiopia which is a small charity reaching large numbers of women and their families in Ethiopia. Money raised goes towards midwifery training which aims to improve the maternity services to women in Ethiopia and improve mortality rates.
