Sian Morgan Lloyd wins 'Rising Star' award
14 November 2017
Journalism lecturer Sian Morgan Lloyd has won the 'Rising Star’ award at Cardiff University’s Celebrating Excellence Awards.
The award recognised Sian's development of the School of Journalism, Media and Cultural Studies' Welsh language provision in the two years since she joined the University.
Under her leadership, five Welsh medium modules have been implemented at Undergraduate level and Sian has also worked closely with the School's Welsh speaking Postgraduate students. She triumphed ahead of twenty-four other nominees in what was one of the most contested award categories.
Director of Undergraduate Studies Dr John Jewell said, "The Celebrating Excellence Awards are an opportunity for all staff to say 'thank you' to those colleagues who go the extra mile."
"In addition to Sian's contribution to our Welsh language provision, the award also recognised Sian's engagement work with schools, colleges and the media sector, and the opportunities she’s helped create for students to become involved in various journalism and media projects."
"We're very proud that Sian’s efforts have been recognised by the University."
Sian said, "I'm very proud of what we’ve achieved. Our exciting range of modules and partnerships with industry allow all the School's single and joint honours degree students to study through the medium of Welsh, should they choose to do so."
"I must thank all of my colleagues for their support - I'm genuinely delighted to be the winner of this year's ‘Rising Star’ award".
