Two HPP athletes compete in the Commonwealth Shooting Federation Championships
9 November 2017
Coral Kennerley (Pistol Shooting) and Dean Bale (Rifle Shooting) have just returned to the UK after spending the last few weeks on the Gold Coast, Australia.
The Commonwealth Shooting Federation Championships took place at the shooting venue which will host the Commonwealth Games in April next year. Therefore it was a fantastic opportunity for Coral and Dean to go test out the venue ahead of hopeful selection for the Games.
First to compete was Coral representing Wales and competing in the 10m Air Pistol. Coral placed 11th in qualification so unfortunately did not make the final, however was good experience to compete in the venue and against athletes she will hopefully face in the games next year, pending selection.
Dean competed in the 50m Rifle 3 Position where he qualified for the final in fifth position and subsequently replicated this position to finish fifth in the final, a great result which bodes well for hopeful England selection for the Commonwealth Games.
Both Coral and Dean have achieved the Commonwealth Games qualifying score for their relevant countries, so it comes down to decisions from the home nations as to their selection for the games. We wish them the best of luck moving forward and fingers crossed for selection!
