First cohort of MSc Skills and Workforce Development students graduate

The first cohort from the MSc Skills and Workforce Development graduated in a ceremony in Singapore this week.

The students, who started the programme in April 2015, graduated from the two-year Master’s programme which is run by Cardiff University School of Social Sciences in collaboration with  Singapore-based partner, the Institute for Adult Learning.

The graduation ceremony was attended by Professor Sin Yi Cheung, Professor of Sociology at Cardiff University School of Social Sciences, and Professor Ken Hamilton, International Dean for the College of Arts, Humanities and Social Sciences at Cardiff University.

The guest of honour, Dr Janil Puthucheary, Senior Minister of State of Singapore, said in his address, “I’m delighted to have two senior professors from Cardiff University joining us at this important event celebrating students’ success together”.

Graduand Anthony Soon said: “I had the honour to start the show by being the first person to walk up the stage and shake Professor Hamilton’s hand. A really proud and good feeling!”

Designed for practitioners, policy makers and researchers in the East Asian region, the programme aims to develop expertise and enhance professional capacity in the field of employment, skills and workforce development in a changing global context.

This leading-edge collaboration between Cardiff and Singapore hopes to build the next generation of senior policy makers, divisional directors, researchers and other professionals required to meet the skills and workforce challenges of the future.

Applications are now open for the next cohort of students starting in April 2018.
