Runners prepare for race of their lives
27 September 2017
Hundreds of Cardiff University staff, students and alumni are preparing for the challenge of their lives when they run the Cardiff University/Cardiff Half Marathon on Sunday 1 October.
Many are running as part of our largest ever #TeamCardiff and will join a record entry of 25,000 runners for what is the second largest half marathon in the UK.
#TeamCardiff runners are raising funds for the University’s research into cancer and neuroscience & mental health, with 100% of the funds going to these causes.
They will be loudly encouraged by a dedicated #TeamCardiff “cheer squad” for the first time, positioned near the School of Engineering.
Many other University staff and students will be volunteering in important roles to ensure the big day goes without a hitch.
The University is title sponsor of the event and has extended its involvement until at least 2020.
Those completing this year’s race will receive a medal depicting Main Building to commemorate our support of the event.
In addition to the main race on the Sunday, a day-long Festival of Running for all ages takes place on Saturday 30 September.
The festival includes the Cardiff University Student Life Fun Run at 12:15, a mascot race featuring the University’s Dylan the Dragon at 13:05, and the Cardiff University Family Fun Run at 13:45.
Spectators and runners alike should look out for the Cardiff University marquee in the race village which will host a range of fun activities on both days.
