Celebrating pilot year of the High 5 scheme

Cardiff Business School held a celebratory event to mark the end of the pilot year of its High 5 Recognition Scheme for professional services staff on Tuesday 19 September 2017.

Present at the event were the the 2016/17 High 5 award recipients, the High 5 panel and the School Manager, Dr Andrew Glanfield.

Dean and Head of School Professor Martin Kitchener was also present and addressed the assembled guests. He commented on the original purpose of the recognition scheme and its resulting success in shining a spotlight on staff members who are going the extra mile and contributing significantly to the School’s standing and reputation.

The High 5 scheme, which recognises professional services staff, was designed as a complement to the University’s existing recognition schemes, the Outstanding Contribution Award Scheme (OCAS) and the Celebrating Excellence Awards (CEA). The idea came from the Business School’s professional services staff themselves and was developed in consultation with HR colleagues from the College of Arts, Humanities and Social Sciences, and the University.

During this pilot year, any individual or team could be nominated for High 5 recognition. The nomination was then considered in relation to five key areas of delivery: customer service, teamwork, collegiality, innovation and creativity, and contribution towards’ the School’s Public Value strategy.

Successful nominees received a congratulatory email from the School Manager, a High 5 pin badge and a small token of appreciation in the form of a gift card.

Professor Kitchener said: “The High 5 scheme has been an excellent way to recognise our professional services staff and the work they do on behalf of our academic and student communities. The level of expertise they bring to their roles and the service they provide to our stakeholders, internal and external, cannot be overstated.”
