International Relations Professor awarded Honorary Professorship

A School of Law and Politics scholar has been awarded an Honorary Professorship at the University of Seychelles.

International Relations Professor Christian Bueger, was awarded the honorary role for his contribution to the development of the Sir James Mancham International Centre for Peace Studies and Diplomacy (JMPC).

The JMPC is based at the University of Seychelles and is a major initiative to build capacity in the field of international relations, security studies, diplomacy and peace research in the Western Indian Ocean region. As a new think tank it informs the reconciliation process in Seychelles but also engages in training and research in areas such as maritime security, small island state diplomacy and the regional dynamics of the Western Indian Ocean.

Speaking of his achievement Professor Christian Bueger commented, “Ensuring maritime security and developing the blue economy requires strong expertise that can inform smart policy on a national as well as regional level. JMPC plays a vital role in Seychelles and the region to ensure sustainable development and a solid knowledge base in the field of security and international relations. I am deeply honoured to be able to assist the centre in performing this role and grateful for the University to award me with this honorary professorship.”

Professor Bueger has been collaborating with JMPC as part of his research on maritime security and in particular his project SAFESEAS, that develops best practices for maritime security capacity building, funded by the British Academy.
