Continuing excellence at the School of Biosciences

An internationally recognised performance indicator confirms the continuing excellence of the School of Biosciences' research activity.  Life Sciences at Cardiff University has been ranked within the top 100 in the world, and the University as a whole within the top 150 for 2014, according to one of the leading benchmarks of university performance, the Academic Ranking of World Universities issued by the Centre for World Class Universities at Shanghai Jiao Tong University, retaining its position from 2013.

The School's high level of research activity is also reflected in the total of new research grant awards for the period 1 August 2013 – 31 July 2014, which rose to a record £15.1M.

The School is not only outstanding in research, but also has a remarkable teaching record.  Our 'Overall Satisfaction' rating from the 2014 National Student Survey (NSS) rose to 94% and the key indicator 'Teaching on my Course' rose to 92%

The Director of the School of Biosciences, Professor Ole Petersen FRS, said: "It is gratifying that our continuing, and even improving, high performance levels in research and teaching are reflected in newly released nationally and internationally approved performance indicators.   The record level of total new grant awards in the 2013/2014 session will fund much new and important research over the coming years, which is likely to find solutions to many important biomedical and biological questions as well as further enhancing the School's reputation."
