Seedcorn Bursary Funding 2017
19 July 2017
Congratulations to Dr Rebecca Hemming who has recently been successful in securing funding for her research project as part of the CITER Seedcorn bursary 2017.
This bursary will fund a twelve month pilot project gaining expertise in quantitative fluoroscopy (QF), to better analyse dynamic and functional movement of the spine. This project will further Rebecca's PhD work where she used skin-surface optoelectronic techniques to identify differences in thoraco-lumbar spinal curvature between subgroups of low back pain patients during functional activities. These were novel findings, which are important for informing and improving targeted treatments for patients.
Training in QF will be acquired via a Visiting Fellowship in Bournemouth, working alongside Professor Alan Breen and his team. This will enable development of the expertise necessary to establish a programme of spinal fluoroscopy work in the new Motion Analysis and Dynamic Biplanar Fluoroscopy Facility in the School of Engineering at Cardiff University. Rebecca begins working on this research project in the middle of August.
