New Investigator Award by the Intensive Care Foundation 2014
11 July 2014
Dr Stephen Clark, together with Dr Meike Heurich (Medicine), received a New Investigator Award by the Intensive Care Foundation (NIHR portfolio partner).
This research grant provides funding of £14k over 24 months to pump-prime research ideas that will lead to further and more substantial support from other grant giving bodies. Dr Clark and Dr Heurich's shared interest in intensive care medicine and sepsis has resulted in this collaborative project to conduct research into the role of neutrophils and innate blood defence mechanisms (complement & coagulation) in sepsis.
The clinical aspect of the research is conducted in collaboration with Prof. Judith Hall and the Critical Illness Research Group.
To kick-start the project, two summer students, who both received prestigious stipends, one of which is the Wellcome Trust Biomedical Vacation Scholarship, are currently commencing work in Dr Clark and Dr Heurich's labs to develop in vitro assays.
