School of Geography and Planning student, Fatima Moreno Viera wins Highly Commended in South Wales Women in Property Student Award.
Fatima who is studying for a City and Regional Planning degree, which includes a year in industry, was nominated for the award by her lecturer, Professor Richard Cowell.
Speaking about the award Fatima said: “I feel really proud as I was the youngest finalist and the only one not studying a degree just focused on surveying. This experience has given me the chance to network with regional professionals and created lots of potential for future opportunities. It has been a highly rewarding experience.”
Richard said: 'I’m delighted for Fatima. She was the top-performing female student in her cohort and had already shown strong commitment to the built environment professions, including a year out in industry at the Laboratory of Planning and Architecture at Gran Canaria in Spain'.”
Nicola Jones, Chairman of the WiP South Wales branch said, “These Awards seek out the most talented students studying built environment courses, which can include planning to surveying, architecture to engineering, project management to property finance, so a broad spectrum of disciplines.
“We aim to raise the bar, by challenging the students to really evaluate their subject, how they hope to progress towards a career and help them develop the skills they will need along the way. All this year’s finalists have done really well and our congratulations go to them all.”
Universities were invited to nominate their best students from built environment degree courses with fourtyfour Universities taking part in 2017.
The national winner will be announced at a black tie Awards dinner at Claridge’s on 20th September.
