Chemistry professor elected to Learned Society of Wales
8 May 2017
Professor Richard Catlow has been elected a Fellow of the prestigious Learned Society of Wales.
Professor Richard Catlow, Professor of Catalytic and Computational Chemistry, works jointly at UCL and Cardiff University in the field of computational and experimental studies of complex materials, especially those of importance in catalytic technologies. He has also recently been elected as Foreign Secretary of the Royal Society.
The Learned Society of Wales (LSW) was established in 2010 to promote research excellence in Wales to a global community. With more than 460 Fellows from all subject areas, the LSW brings together a host of successful and talented professionals who assist the Society in its work. Fellows serve on Society committees and working groups, represent the LSW nationally and internationally, and provide independent and expert advice to Government.
Election is highly competitive as candidates must progress through a rigorous five-stage election process, including an examination of their achievements in their relevant fields.
Sir Emyr Jones Parry, the Society’s President, said: “I am delighted to welcome such a wide range of outstanding individuals to the Fellowship this year. This year’s election appreciates scholars who are making a contribution of excellence. They and their work are an inspiration to the nation. Again this year there are more female Fellows elected reflecting the Society’s determination to see merit rewarded.”
