Rachel Hargest wins Silver Scalpel Award for excellence in surgical training

The Association of Surgeons in Training (ASiT) has awarded Rachel Hargest the 2017 Silver Scalpel Award.

ASiT is an independent professional body and registered charity which works to promote the highest standards in surgical training.

The prestigious Silver Scalpel award was introduced in 2000 to recognize excellence in surgical trainingand is awarded once a year to a trainer who has excelled in leadership, resourcefulness, training and development, professionalism and communication.

Miss Hargest is a clinical senior lecturer in Colorectal Surgery and a member of the Cardiff China Medical Research Collaborative (CCMRC).

Her clinical practice is performed mainly at University Hospital of Wales where she trains junior surgeons, and supervises post graduate research students in CCMRC. She is also President of the Surgical Section of the Royal Society of Medicine which is one of the UK’s largest providers of continuing medical education.
