Professor Kevin Morgan has been invited personally by the Greek Economy and Development Minister to help the country craft a new growth strategy.

He will join a newly formed 11-member Scientific Development Council to develop a plan to strengthen growth in Greece over the next five years.

The EU and the IMF expect Greece’s economy to expand by 2.7% this year following growth of 0.3% last year.

Professor Morgan, of the School of Geography and Planning, said it was a great honour to be invited to contribute to the country’s new growth plan by Economy and Development Minister Dimitri Papadimitriou.

The first meeting of the Scientific Development Council is taking place in Athens on Friday 10 March.
