Employers target Cardiff Chemistry graduates
7 November 2014
Early November saw the latest Careers Science Fair take place. This year's event was the largest ever with a record number of students and employers attending. On the day over 1200 students engaged with a wide range of employers, and this is more than a three-fold increase on the number of students last year. The number of employers exhibiting also increased over previous fairs, with 20 companies being present.
A number of companies, such as Johnson Matthey, Purolite, Vectura, Dow Corning, Akzo Nobel, Mondalez and GE Healthcare were specifically interested in Chemists, whilst many others recognise the value of a Chemistry degree to provide a wide range of career choices. The increased numbers engaging through the Science Fair follows the latest employment statistics, which places Cardiff graduates successfully gaining employment second only to Cambridge from all the universities in the Russell Group.
Dr Tom Tatchell, who was one of the organisers from the School of Chemistry said, "It is great to see so many employers and students attending the event, it just shows how much employers value a Chemistry degree from Cardiff." Planning has already begun for the next Careers Science Fair, and it appears it will be an event not to be missed in the calendar as it continues to grow.
