Images of conflict and their impact on global politics
19 August 2016
Dr Andrea Calderaro was recently interviewed by Al Jazeera’s Sami Zeidan about the image of five-year-old Omran Daqneesh in Syria.
The interview, titled – ‘Do powerful pictures make a difference?’, noted that modern history is full of similar images of conflict which played on the collective conscience of global opinion long before the internet was invented.
But what will this latest image achieve beyond short-term outrage?
Dr Calderaro was joined by fellow guests George Graham (Head of conflict and humanitarian policy at Save the Children) and John Hilary (Executive director of War on Want).
