Prestigious BCS Turing Lecture to return to Cardiff University

On February 21st, the BCS Turing Lecture will return to Cardiff University with guest speaker, Dr Guruduth S. Banavar, the VP and Chief Science Officer of IBM Research, the largest industrial research organisation in the world.
Dr Banavar will deliver a lecture on Beneficial Artificial Intelligence (AI) for the Advancement of Humankind. The talk will address recent technology breakthroughs, practical applications for the real-world, and ethical considerations guiding the development and deployment of the technology for the benefit of humankind.
The talk will also look at how the partnerships between people and machines enhance human expertise in every industry, from healthcare to financial services to the education sector.
The Turing Lectures will visit Cardiff, London, Belfast and Dublin throughout February and are a series of talks that were established by the British Computer Society (BCS) in 1999 recognition of Alan Turing's OBE contribution to the field of computing. Turing is often regarded as the creator of modern computing and was highly influential in the development of theoretical computer science.
The lecture will be taking place in the Cardiff University Main Building from 5:30pm – 8:30pm on 21st February 2017 and it is open to all.
