Cardiff is one of only seven universities who have achieved top marks in a Stonewall checklist for assessing how supportive universities are for lesbian, gay and bisexual prospective students.
The Stonewall Gay by Degree guide has been set up to help perspective students choose a university that will welcome and support LGB students, allowing them to be themselves and contributing to their student experience.
Stonewall has worked with students to identify ten key things that universities should be doing to offer lesbian, gay and bisexual students the most positive experience possible. Cardiff University is delighted to have scored 10/10 in this checklist.
Director of Stonewall Cymru Andrew White said: 'Cardiff University joins six other UK universities who've scored top marks in Stonewall's 2013Gay By Degree.
"It's hugely important for gay school leavers to be able to look for universities where they can be themselves. By supporting their gay students and staff so effectively, Cardiff helps make sure all students really do have a great start to their adult lives".
Professor Terry Threadgold, Pro Vice Chancellor for Staff and Diversity said: "We are delighted to have scored top marks for our support of LGB students and we will go on doing everything we can to ensure that we offer all of our students the very best possible experience – it matters to all of us to get this right".
Cardiff University was also delighted to be recognised as a Stonewall Top 100 Employer for the Workplace Equality Index 2012 earlier this year.
