Improving standards of Welsh in the classroom

Teachers, lecturers and classroom assistants who have improved their levels of Welsh have been recognised for their achievements at an annual award ceremony.

The Welsh Language Sabbatical Scheme award ceremony, held at Aberdare Hall and hosted by the School of Welsh saw participants receive certificates from journalist, broadcaster and Cardiff alumni, Sian Lloyd, following the successful completion of their courses.

The scheme is a multi-million pound initiative designed to help teaching professionals raise the standard of their Welsh and gain confidence in using the language with the overall aim of improving standards in Welsh medium-teaching.

Foundation-level and entry-level courses in Cardiff and the Vale of Glamorgan, and higher-level courses in Cardiff and the south east region are delivered by the School of Welsh.

Lowri Davies, the Scheme's coordinator at Cardiff said: "It was wonderful to have the opportunity to celebrate the practitioner's achievements and to hear so many of them using the Welsh language confidently."
