Recognising staff commitment

Combined service of more than 1,000 years was honoured at the University's recent Recognition of Service event.

A total of 35 members of staff received awards for achieving 40 and 25 years of service. They were congratulated and thanked for their contribution to the University by the Vice-Chancellor Professor Colin Riordan and Pro Vice-Chancellor for Staff and Diversity, Professor Terry Threadgold.

Speaking about the event Professor Threadgold said: "I would like to extend my thanks to all those who have been recognised at this year's event. Their loyalty, commitment and support to the University, and us all, over the years has made Cardiff the great university it is today."

One of those to receive an award was Dr Eryl Cox from the Research and Commercial Division. After joining the University in 1987 as a researcher Eryl's career changed direction in the late 90's when she took on the role of Technology Transfer Officer, working with academics to take their research to market.

When talking about her time at the University Eryl said: "This is the most rewarding job I've ever had. I get to interact with academics, helping them work with companies to develop their ideas and research which is incredibly enjoyable and satisfying.

"Every day is different – I certainly can't say that my job is boring. In fact I think I've probably learnt something new every day of my working life.

"Working at Cardiff University has meant something very special to me. It's the place where I've always been most comfortable and happy. The people that I work with and that I have worked with over the past 25 years have all been so lovely – it feels like a big family."

The annual Recognition of Service event is organised by the Human Resources Division as part of the Positive Working Environment initiative.
