Fully funded 3-4 Year PhD Studentship researching the Training of Doctors for the Future in Wales

Applications are being sought for a prestigious, fully-funded, full-time ESRC Doctoral Training Partnership for Wales (Wales DTP) PhD studentship, based in the School of Social Sciences at Cardiff University, beginning October 2017.

The studentship is offered for 3 years or 4  years (to include Masters) and is part-funded by The Wales Deanery.  You will be based in CUREMeDE (Cardiff Unit for Research and Evaluation of Medical and Dental Education) and will be supervised by CUREMeDE Director, Professor Alison Bullock.

This is a special opportunity to study an increasingly important issue which crosses disciplinary boundaries. You will research the training of new hospital doctors and how it can be developed to meet changing demographics (resulting in increasingly complex patient needs) and more holistic approaches.

• You will develop research skills and subject-specialist knowledge which will enable you to conduct high-quality research.
• You will learn how to use a range of research techniques to develop knowledge which will shape the future training of doctors in Wales.
• You will receive excellent supervision by a team including partners based in the Wales Deanery and School of Social Sciences. The Deanery has a Wales-wide remit for postgraduate and continuing education of doctors. Deanery staff have deep understanding of postgraduate medical training and can facilitate access to research participants.
• You will benefit from established links with Health Board leaders who are aware of innovative practice worthy of study.

This doctoral study is suitable for motivated mid-career professionals working in the healthcare sector or educators of healthcare professionals as well as open-minded early-career students with a background in a medical education field (including social sciences).
