Cardiff University is among the best in the UK for preparing graduates for the workplace, a new survey of UK recruiters has found.
Published exclusively by Times Higher Education, the ‘Global University Employability Ranking 2016’ has placed the University joint 14th in the UK for producing work-ready graduates.
The University was ranked as the top university in Wales on this measure, and one of the best in the UK outside of London.
All UK universities were included in the survey, which asked UK recruiters with experience of hiring or working with graduates to vote for the universities that produce the best graduates in terms of employability.
The UK survey forms part of the overall ‘Global University Employability Ranking 2016’, which ranked higher education institutions from all over the world based on a survey of global recruiters and managing directors of international companies.
The UK was ranked third in the world for graduate employability, behind Germany in second and the US in first.
Professor Amanda Coffey, Pro Vice-Chancellor, Student Experience & Academic Standards, said: “I am delighted that Cardiff University has been selected as amongst the best in the UK for graduate employability. It is very pleasing that our students are highly regarded by employers. We take great pride in preparing our graduates for life after university, ensuring that they benefit from opportunities to develop work ready skills and attributes.”
Commenting on the University’s ranking, Scarlett Seager, West and Wales Student Recruitment Manager for PwC, said: “Although academics are important to us, your employability skills are just as vital. That’s why flexibility, curiosity, leadership and commercial awareness are just some of the core competencies we look for in our future people."
