Coma Notes

Join us this weekend for an evening of new music by Cardiff University composers, in collaboration with poet, James Nash, and the Cardiff-York Universities Coma and Disorders of Consciousness Research Centre.

Our postgraduate composers, under the supervision of Dr Arlene Sierra of the School of Music, have teamed up with internationally-acclaimed soprano Sarah Dacey and harpist Gwenllian Llyr for a concert on new works on Saturday 12 November. It will be an opportunity to hear the world premieres of original poetry, personal recollections and other texts combined with expressive, colourful and powerful music.

There will also be a post-concert talk featuring composers, musicians, James Nash, and Professor Jenny Kitzinger of the School of Journalism, Media and Cultural Studies, who conducted the research which informed the composition and poetry.

Professor Kitzinger said: “This is an exciting collaboration – leading to some very powerful and original new poetry and music. I am very much looking forward to Saturday, which should be a fascinating evening. The discussion between musicians, poet, composers and researchers will give audiences a unique insight into the creative process.”

This event is part of the national ESRC Festival of the Social Sciences. It is free to attend but please register in advance via Eventbrite.
